Día de los Muertos is a holiday that is public and celebrated in Mexico. During the 16th century, the celebration took place at the beginning of Summer. Gradually it was associated with October 31, November 1 and 2, to coincide with the western Christian, of All Saints’ Eve, and All Souls’ Day. The traditions connect with the holiday with building, private altars called, ofrendas, it is to honor the deceased using sugar skulls (which I love), marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. Día de los Muertos became a national holiday based on educational policies in the 1960s, because the Mexican Government decided to make it a national holiday. The Mexican Day of the Dead celebration is like those culture’s observances of a time to honor the dead.
